A new addition to Winnipeg’s exchange district that preserves, restores, and integrates an adjacent historic masonry building. The building serves as a community catalyst in Winnipeg's historic Exchange district, expanding Red River's presence in the city core. The building incorporates indigenous artwork and design philosophies throughout. A sweeping illuminated soffit inserts Jackie Traverse's commissioned painting to the exchange district cityscape, while KC Adam's 'Morning Star' design adorns the floor of the roundhouse auditorium, a circular space designed in consultation with elders.

Sustainability was a key mandate of the building, an aspiration recognized by the Canadian Green Building Council (CAGBC) when it awarded the building the Green Building Excellence Award for New Construction in 2023.

The facade is highly insulated with triple glazing throughout, new insulation in the existing heritage masonry building. The south facade features a distinctive building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) facade designed collaboratively with Danish BIPV pioneers Solarlab. In developing this facade, we played a key role in the design, coordinating with custom international manufacturers, and navigating Canadian approvals, testing and certifications. Commodity solar panels cover the roof of the new and existing building. A made in Manitoba high performance ERV provides fresh air to the building.
